April 29 in A.A. History

In 1998 [April 30?], Sybil C. [right], a former bootlegger, dance-hall girl, Long Beach (California) A.A. archivist, and the first executive secretary for California A.A., died in Los Angeles, California, just 21 days before her 90th birthday. She had been sober since 23 Mar 1941 and was the first woman to join A.A. west of the Mississippi River. In later talks, she introduced herself by saying, “My name is Sybil Doris Adams Stratton Hart Maxwell Willis C., and I’m an alcoholic.”
